Season 2

While hosting dignitaries at the Morley home, Katy faints when she meets a European businessman. In a flashback, we learn he was her first love who promised to marry her and then didn't.

Glen keeps breaking dates with Katy because he's working on a new bill that would invest in computer technology. Meanwhile Katy ends up on a dating game show where she's matched up with a handsome man, which irks Glen.

Katy's niece, Ingrid, comes to visit. She is attracted to every man she sees and vice versa. Katy and Glen, who planned a day together alone, must now keep Ingrid on a short leash.

Katy becomes jealous when Glen's mother-in-law comes for a visit. Katy stumbles upon a diary that belonged to Glen's late wife and, in flashback, we learn how they met and what led to her passing.

Katy becomes the subject of local gossip after Danny writes a composition in school. He says that Katy slept in Glen's room one night and the story threatens Katy's nomination for a mother's group.

Glen faces a disturbance outside his house. An 18-year-old won't stop protesting until Glen considers lowering the voting age. Meanwhile, Katy takes pity on the boy who thinks Katy is the girl for him.

Glen returns to Minnesota for last-minute campaigning. His manager is taking more than a professional interest and when she gives Glen less-than-honorable advice it leads to problems between Glen and Katy.

Katy is so busy that Glen suggests she hire a housekeeper. Katy hires her friend who is looking for a new job. However, she is looking for a husband and is hoping to hook Glen.

Glen is entertaining the sultan of Iraq at his home and the man wants to make Agatha his newest wife. His son, the Shah, tried to do the same with Katy once before.

In a dream, senior citizens Glen and Agatha help celebrate Katy's 76th birthday. But this is one dream Katy doesn't want to come true - at 76 she's still a spinster.

Mr. Holstrum hopes Katy will persuade Glen on a road construction vote. She remains neutral. When Glen votes the opposite way Mr. Holstrum is offended and makes Katy leave the Morley home.

Glen invites a widow friend and her kids to Washington. However, their feelings for each other cause confusion and Katy thinks Glen would be better off marrying the woman instead of Katy.

Papa Holstrum is getting anxious about Katy and Glen. Katy dreams the whole family live in France and that life would be much different. But the dream soon turns into a nightmare.

Glen and Katy play matchmaker for their friends. The two marry quickly and try to do the same for Katy and Glen. However it ends up causing a fight between all four of them.

An opportunistic politician puts the squeeze on Glen for a favor, forcing the congressman to play politics. This causes Steve to lose respect for Glen. Now he must find a way to redeem himself.

Glen and Katy's are having a rough time. Meanwhile, Glen's friend from England arrive and showers Katy with attention and a marriage proposal. Glen must find a way to win Katy back.

Steven is experiencing growing pains thanks to a new friend who has complete independence. Steve rebels against Katy and when there's word Glen's plane has crashed it gives Steve food for thought.

An overbearing film director chooses the Morley house for his latest film. The director gives Katy a part but then humiliates her when she turns down his advances.

Steven decides to go steady with Nancy Beth and she immediately starts planning their wedding and future. A nervous Steven wants to break things off, and when he does, Nancy Beth develops a crush on Glen.

Katy has her horoscope read when dining with Glen. The teller says Katy and Glen are headed for disaster. The two start fighting and when they make up, Glen tries to propose but it gets foiled. The two still find a way to patch things up.

Katy feels she's not needed much around the Morley house. She decides to get a job at night at a bookstore. The job is just okay but Glen thinks Katy is trying to spite him, making her more determined not to quit.

Katy is still feeling like she needs to spend less time at the Morley house. A friend convinces Katy to move out and she does. However, she and Glen end up spending more time together than they did when she lived with the family.

Glen's childhood friend, paranoid, and hypochondriac Tony Parrish comes to visit. He's very rich and eccentric. Katy hopes to ask him for a donation to the orphanage she works at and Tony thinks it's a marriage ploy.

Glen is getting some extra attention from a British mystery writer, spurring jealousy in Katy. One night she reads one of the stories and dreams Morleys live in England and are involved in a mysterious crime, with Katy as the suspect.

As Katy volunteers at the orphanage she becomes close to a little girl who always seems to get picked over for adoption. When a young couple show interest, Katy must help both the couple and little girl find a way to each other.

While visiting a park Katy tells off a rich snob. The man is so infatuated with Katy's frankness that he asks her to become his personal assistant. Both Katy and Glen are forced to re-examine their feelings for each other.

Some of the members of The Washington Women's Club are not too pleased with their president. So, the women nominate Katy to run for president, causing Glen to feel neglected.

Glen has an idea to promote affordable childcare and Katy has a suggestion: she knows of some elderly women who would be perfect as daycare workers. However, the press gets wind and thinks Katy gives Glen all his ideas.

Katy is the recipient of a citizenship award and a fellow Minnesotan is in town to present it. Meanwhile, Katy brings home a friend, a Russian diplomat. Katy is soon branded Un-American.

Katy's rich Uncle leaves her a castle in his will. An attorney suggests turning the castle into a hotel. Glen says Katy has no idea how to do this which only pushes her further with the idea. This means she will have to leave the Morleys.

Katy's new friend in the government is also the eyes and ears of Washington. Katy starts to brag about Glen and his success causing Katy's friend to think he's being promoted to a higher position. Soon the rumor mill goes into overtime.

The time has come for Glen to propose. He plans a wonderful evening, but Katy ends up hosting Danny's scout troop. The two spend the whole night trying to find time for each other.

Glen and Katy decide to visit the farm so that Glen can properly as for Katy's hand in marriage. However, Papa says Nej because he thinks Glen's career is not stable. The family finds a way to convince Papa otherwise.

Katy's friends are planning a bridal shower and it's up to Glen to keep Katy out until the right time. Katy is hoping to see a special concert and gets tickets. Now Glen has a problem trying to get Katy back to her own party.

Katy and Glen are feeling that they may not be able to wait until November to get married. They decide to elope however the plan is fraught with interruptions and both agree it's worth the wait.
