Season 1

Middle schooler Nishikata is often teased by Takagi, the girl who sits next to him in class. One day, he decides to try teasing her back.

Nishikata notices that Takagi isn't riding her bike to school. When he asks her why, she jokingly tells him she wants to walk while holding his hand.

While Takagi and Nishikata work in the school library during the lunch break, Takagi suddenly makes a comment that takes Nishikata by surprise.

Hoping to end the year with a victory, Nishikata challenges Takagi to a game, but she sets an unusual rule: whoever makes the other person happy wins.

On Valentine's Day, Nishikata resolves to keep his cool around Takagi and not let her tease him but secretly hopes she will give him some chocolate.

When Nishikata hears from Nakai that Takagi is moving away, it begins to weigh on his mind. Later that day, Takagi tells him the news directly.

On Takagi's last day at school, a melancholy Nishikata struggles to process his feelings about her leaving. Mr. Tanabe gives him some encouragement.

On the first morning of the new academic year, Nishikata gets an unexpected phone call from Takagi. Later, he encounters a surprise at school.
